Well first of all, you inhale air - you can open your mouth to suck it in, or if you're a super cool pro, you can inhale it throught your nose (don't worry, it's not a drug!).
After awhile, and by that I mean a few seconds, you have to exhale air, it gets old real fast. Again, you blow it out your mouth or nose, but the nose way takes skill. It is however really really worth it, I don't mean to be the kinda dude to do hyper-optimizing, but nose breathing saves soo many animation frames and is 0.023 seconds faster.
